For my second blog post I am sticking with the topic of goals. In my first post I talked about my new habit of writing out my top 10 goals every morning. I think one of tricks to achieving your goals is to be really clear on what you want and why you want it. It is also helpful to write down the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ of your goals, as it really helps with motivation and staying focused. So I going to use this post as a chance to publicly write down the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of my current top ten goals.
I am happy at work
For me happiness at work is a bit of a strange goal. While I really don’t want to be in my current job long term, being unhappy at work in short term has a negative effect on the rest of my life. A bad day at work leaves me feeling drained when I get home and sometimes unable to do anything productive. In contrast a good day at work leaves me with enough energy to work on my own goals before I go to bed. I am training to be a life coach, which means most work day evenings I have practise coaching sessions with clients. I don’t charge my clients at the moment as I am still learning, but I still do my best to be in a good positive mood during the sessions, after all nobody wants a grumpy life coach.
I have a tidy and organised home where everything is easy to find
I am messy and keeping the house tidy is a real challenge for me. I know my dyslexia is partly to blame for my messiness. I don’t think I will ever be able to describe myself as a minamalist, but I would like to do better. Sometimes I get embarrassed by my messiness, especially if new people are visiting the house. I let this upset me less than it used to. The worst thing about the mess is not being able to find things. I often spend ages looking for something and I find it so frustrating. Also, I think the mess has an effect on my mental health. I am a visual person and I like things to look nice. Sometimes the mess does start to make me feel down. It makes me feel a bit of failure when things are messy.
I enjoy analysing my spending
Money is a problem area for me; I worried about money since a young child. My parents struggled financially for a while and this had a lasting impact on me. I know I don’t have ridiculous spending habits, but being a single woman with a house and lots of pets to pay for, I need to be careful what I spend. I currently work as an accountant; I love analysing company expenditure but hate analysing my own. People often find that hard to understand, but there is a big difference between looking at company spend and looking at your own. The company’s money does not seem like real money, it’s just numbers, whereas my own money is a very emotive subject. I need to be able to track of spending in order to identify possible areas to save money in the future.
My bank account is always in credit
This goal fits in with the one above. I hope if I tell myself I have a credit balance often enough the law of attraction will kick in and make it happen.
I have a six pack
If you are not familiar with the term six pack it refers to a person’s abdominal muscles being very well defined. To get a six pack you would have to do a lot of abdominal exercises to build up the muscles. You also need to keep tummy fat at bay by either doing cardio exercise or watching what you eat. A lot of people dream of having a six pack, while others think it is an unachievable goal so they do not even try. Up to the age of around 23 I had a perfectly flat tummy, but since then it has been the one area I really put weight on. I have felt self-conscious of this for a long time, probably not helped by someone asking me if I was pregnant once. When I was younger I had the kind of figure some women would kill for, but I never had any confidence in my looks. Age brings confidence, but it also brings wrinkles and saggy flesh, although thankfully at 33 I am not at that stage yet. I want a body I can be really proud of before the signs of ageing start to take hold.
I am a qualified coach
I am currently training to be a life coach, so to be a qualified coach is an obvious goal. For me the qualification will mean I can help other people transform their lives. I truly believe we only get one life and we should make the most of it. This qualification will also mean I can charge clients the going rate for my services; this will enable me to have a better work life balance and go on to achieve more of my dreams. After qualification I also want to do some voluntary work, including supporting young dyslexic people. Being dyslexic can make it very hard to get along in the world.
I earn £60k a year
£60k is a figure picked out of the air, but it’s more than I earn now. If you have read ‘The Secret’ you will know there is no really difference in asking the universe for £60k a year or £600k a year, but I feel a better aiming for a reasonable amount. If I continued to work as an accountant for the rest of my working life I might reach a £100k a year if I was lucky, but then again I would probably also be pretty miserable. So £60k a year doing things I enjoy would be a dream come true. For me the dream of earning a lot is not about nice cars and designer clothes, but more about security, knowing that whatever happens you will have the money to cover it, that is a real luxury. I would also like to be in the position to help causes close to my heart.
I have finished my interview course
A few months ago I started writing an online course about interview skills for accountants. For various reasons I have got distracted from finishing the course creation. When I have finished it, it will give accountancy job hunters the benefit of my 9 years of industry experience. I am very good at job interviews. In fact, most of the time I enjoy interviews; the chance to meet new people and talk about myself for an hour, what’s not to love. Once finished the course could also be a good source of income.
I have a website with a 1000 visits a day
I love websites, perhaps they fascinate me so much as I grow up before the internet took hold of every aspect of our lives. I still find the process of registering a new domain name magical, the way it suddenly appears on the internet. The goal of having a website with 1000 visits a day has two benefits, hopefully having a site with this many visitors will help me attract new coaching clients and secondly having a really successful website will help show that I know what I am doing and gain me some clients for my online marketing services.
I have multiple streams of income.
As I mentioned before for me money is security and the more sources of income you have the more secure you become. If for some reason one source of income dries up you will still have others to fall back on. I would like to have a property portfolio in the future. If I was to get sick and not be able to work anymore the properties could still provide me with a living.
